11 Rapid-Fire Questions From Reddit (fixed audio)
Friday May 01, 2020
Friday May 01, 2020
An awesome Redditor sent Faith 11 great questions and we go through them all, bam bam bam, for your listening pleasure.
The Pitch Drop Experiment is a demonstration of viscosity where pitch in a funnel yields one very slow drop every 7-9 years (until the lab installed air conditioning which then slowed the rate of drippage too ever 12-13 years).
Of course Flying Synagogues are a thing. Or they were in 2006.

Saturday Apr 04, 2020
Got Netflix Party? Patrons are invited to join us in watching Tootsie on Sunday Apr 4 at 8 pm eastern time! Is it a bold mainstream portrayal of crossdressing with A-list actors and comedians, a tasteless comedy that makes trans people the butt of every joke, or something in between? Join the chat and chime in when you're moved, tickled, or aghast. And y'all? Faith has never seen it!

Supporting A Gender-Questioning Partner
Sunday Dec 15, 2019
Sunday Dec 15, 2019
Awesome partner Jenny asked us "I was wondering if you could discuss the gender spectrum a bit and what it means to be gender questioning. My partner doesn't really know how they feel but they know that they don't feel entirely their assigned gender. As a straight cis woman, I am having a really hard time understanding these feelings and what to do, if anything, to support them in helping them figure out what makes them most comfortable." We discuss how labels can be both helpful and unhelpful, the kinds of questions necessary, what societal strictures should be ignored, and the frustrations Jenny's partner may encounter.
There's a great guide to figuring out a non-binary identity from Micah at Everyday Feminism.

Wearing The Trans Flag 101
Saturday Sep 21, 2019
Saturday Sep 21, 2019
Gaysper is an adorable gay ghost with his own twitter account. Faith made Kath a trans flag Gaysper tshirt. What are the rules for cis allies wearing trans gear? Or even for trans people wearing trans gear? Is it safe? Does it spread awareness? Or is it basically invisible to most people?
Faith's favorite band is Garbage. We have an episode about chasers, if you want to hear how they steal transwomen's photos to attract other transwomen online.

Even Introverts Need A Community
Thursday Aug 01, 2019
Thursday Aug 01, 2019
Ugh, MORE talk about the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference?? Yes but this will be the last episode where we go over the PTWC the until next year, we promise. But all you wonderful listeners who stopped to talk with us at PTWC got us drunk on dopamine, so all this Philly material is kind of your fault. But it also brings up the importance of community, even to introverted misanthropes like ourselves. While online communities are invaluable and even lifesaving, there's just something about being in a room full of people like you.

Crossdressing= Genderqueer?
Thursday May 30, 2019
Thursday May 30, 2019
What is about crossdressing that draws some people to it? Is it a turn-on? A way to relieve gender dysphoria? Rebellion against the binary? Or something else. In this week's episode, we answer a listener's question about crossdressing and motivations. Our listener asks "What drives this feeling for me? I kind of have a hard time answering this. There have been a lot of times in my life where it has been a fetish of sorts for me and I wonder if that is attributable to the fact that it was my secret. I say this because now that I'm able to paint my toes, put on makeup once in a while, and wear some female undergarments to work, that fetish aspect has gone away. It's more just something that makes me feel good about myself. I guess I'm wondering if other crossdressers experienced their fetish transform into something more subdued when they begin to be open with people close to them. I view this as a healthy development for me."

Are You Intimidated By Cis People?
Thursday Nov 01, 2018
Thursday Nov 01, 2018
Presenting as female is no small feat, even for cis women. Transwomen sometimes have a lot of catching up to do in the "living as a female" department. And cis women have had their entire lives to figure it out! Does that intimidate Faith?

Will My Halloween Costume "Out" Me As Trans?
Thursday Oct 25, 2018
Thursday Oct 25, 2018
(Note: skip to 16:29 for the BEST costume for closeted/ questioning MtFs seeking last-minute ideas.) Listener Jaylah is still male-presenting, and she asks if she can use a Halloween party as an opportunity to girl up for the first time. Her important colleagues and awesome new friends will be at the party. Or will it raise too many eyebrows? The tricky theme for the party just increases the challenge level. We say go for it, but of course you need an awesome costume, so we give lots of good suggestions. The Gender Rebels believe in you, Jaylah!

Does Transition Change Your Hogwarts House?
Thursday Oct 18, 2018
Thursday Oct 18, 2018
Listener Vanessa is asking the hard questions! What if you used to be Gryffindor but now come up Ravenclaw? Are all transpeople automatically Gryffindor? What is the Sorting Hat's actual methodology of personality assessment? Is the Sorting Hat clairvoyant? And the name "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" is so binary. What do enbies do?

When It's Time To Take The Makeup Off
Tuesday Sep 04, 2018
Tuesday Sep 04, 2018
You know that complex emotion, when you have to change out of your real presentation and go back to your assigned presentation? It feels worse than just changing clothes. It's so unspeakably bad/ sad/ wrong/ unfair. Kath and Faith try to come up with a name that encompasses all these nasty painful facets.
Big thanks to listener Xan for the question. She recommends Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality by Sarah McBride.

Trans Wellness Conference, Philadelphia 2018
Friday Aug 10, 2018
Friday Aug 10, 2018
The amazing people at the Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia have done it again. They organize the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference every year. This is a gathering of trans and cis doctors, lawyers, therapists, scientists, professors, vendors, social workers, health insurance insiders, artists, activists, poets, writers, YouTubers, podcasters, clergy, parents, nurses, comedians, entrepeneurs, and even a witch. All these fine people come together to work towards a world with greater access to resources and acceptance of transfolks. They present workshops, give talks, throw parties, and discuss and celebrate YOU. We describe our experience of our first year at the conference: the talks we heard (Seeing Myself in the Bible: Gender Minorities in Scripture, My Journey With Illegal Silicone Injections, Communication With Your Cis Partner, Getting FFS and Breast Implants Covered By Insurance, The Road To Desired Vocal Identity), the events we attended, and the joy of meeting some of our listeners in person! We hope we see you there next year!

Friday Jun 01, 2018
Author, activist, and super wonderful fantastic person Katie Rain Hill sits down with the Gender Rebels for the second part of our 100th episode. We'll talk about growing up transgender in a religious, military family, transitioning at a young age, coming out, why listening to oposition matters, and the importance recycling bins at conferences.

Impostor Syndrome
Thursday Feb 08, 2018
Thursday Feb 08, 2018
Are you transgender but sometimes feel like an imposter? In this episode we answer a listener question from Ashley who writes "How do you deal with impostor syndrome? I'm six weeks into HRT and while I still have to present male most of the time, I'm generally hopeful for the future. But some days (rarely) I wake up and ask 'What am I doing?' I know in my heart of hearts that I'm a trans woman and that transition is for me, but some times I feel like a total fake.'"

Developing a Sense of Style
Thursday Jan 18, 2018
Thursday Jan 18, 2018
A sense of style can show the world who you are, but how do you figure out your own sense of style? In this episode we answer a listener question from Steph who asks "I am a primarily feminine non-binary individual, born male. How does one go about developing a sense of style for one's new self? I am trying to learn what feels right for me, but I do not have the education of someone that grew up female. Also, do you have any advice for growing a brand new wardrobe?" We'll talk about finding different looks, keys to a robust wardrobe, and how to have fun figuring out your own sense of style.
